TAVINDRA Mangra was elected president of Zeelugt North Sports Club when the entity held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Sunday at Cold Fusion Sports Bar, Zeelugt, East Bank, Essequibo.
Formerly Cold Fusion Cricket Club, a unanimous decision was taken, following a motion at Sunday’s meeting, to rename the club which was formed in 2017.
Among the others elected at Sunday’s meeting were Vice President — Keon Alexander; Secretary– Trevayne Mohabir; Treasurer– Boodram Robin Persaud; Assistant Secretary/Treasurer– Kapildeo Charandeen. The committee members are: Deokinanan Maniram, Nicolas Williams, Taslim Inshan, Lalo Charandeen and two others.
Former president, Boodnarine Persaud, who was also a founder-member of the club, declined nomination for executive positions due to work commitments. Persaud, who is also Deputy Commander of the West Demerara district, was, however, conferred a life member by the body.
The club is affiliated to the East Bank Essequibo Cricket Association and plans to inform the parent body of the change of name so that it cab be properly registered with the relevant organisations.
Among the aims of the club are to keep young people meaningfully occupied through sports as several of them are alleged to be involved in other undesirable activities.
The club extended heartfelt thanks to all its supporters, including Narchand “Archie” Mohan of the Hawaiian Arctic Cricket Club of Canada and former Guyana Under-19 player, Shameer Sadloo, who resides in New York; both having given tremendous help to the body over the past few years.
Oswald Foo served as the Returning Officer for the proceedings which saw all the office-bearers being unanimously elected.
