HIGH Court Judge, Justice Simone Morris-Ramlall, on Thursday, October 3, 2019, sentenced a 17-year-old boy to serve four years’ imprisonment for engaging in sexual activity with a 6-year-old girl, three years ago.

On September 18, 2019, a mixed 12-member jury found the teen guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a child under the age of consent between November 16, 2016 and November 30, 2016 in Demerara. He was 13 years old at the time.

The matter was held in camera in the Sexual Offenders Court.

On Thursday, a probation report in favour of the teen was read in court. The teen will serve his time at the New Opportunity Corps.
