Recently beaten drug addict found dead

THE lifeless body of James Felix, 35, of Lot 1835 Unity Place, Festival City, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, was discovered in an abandoned motor car, a short distance from his home, yesterday morning.

After Police removed the corpse, his mother, Joyce Felix told the Guyana Chronicle he often complained of severe back pains, following a beating he suffered at the hands of a prominent resident of Tucville, another city ward, about two weeks ago.

She said it was alleged that Felix had stolen a cooking gas cylinder from the assailant’s house and was beaten with a piece of electric wire.

Relatives said Felix had a drug problem and was affected by medical complications which, most times, kept him away from where he lived.

He often spent nights sleeping in the old vehicle next to the former Guyana Stores Limited Community Shopping Centre, in Festival City, too.

Reports suggest that Felix died sometime Monday evening, slumped in the front seat of the car.

He was last seen alive on Sunday night when he went for a meal and was given money for transportation to seek treatment after complaining of feeling unwell.

Those who knew him said Felix was enterprising before he became addicted to cannabis (marijuana).
