PRINCIPAL Magistrate Faith McGusty on Friday sentenced a 26-year-old Route 40 mini-bus conductor to two years imprisonment for the knifepoint robbery of a foreign national.
Farley Reid, also called ‘Ernie’ of ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Georgetown was arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty to the charge.

Reid confessed that on July 31, 2019, at Parade Street, Kingston, Georgetown, while being armed with a knife, he robbed Conner Haynes of an iPhone X worth $290,000.
Police Prosecutor Christopher Morris told the court that the victim is a foreign national visiting Guyana. On the day in question, the victim was walking along Parade Street when Reid confronted him armed with a knife.

Reid, Morris said, snatched the victim’s phone and ran away; he was however nabbed by two public-spirited men in the area; he was searched and the phone was found in his possession.

“I’m not no robber man! I don’t know what meet in my head to snatch a phone. I does work honest, but due to financial problems I get frustrated” Reid told the court.
Reid, who was unrepresented by counsel, told the court that he works hard to make a living and operates a small shop at this home in Sophia; he also told the court that he is an up-and-coming singer.
The magistrate considered the facts of the case and Reid’s early guilty plea before passing sentence.
