(CARICOM Secretariat) FOREIGN Ministers of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will be hosts to the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom at the 7th CARICOM-UK Forum which will be held in St George’s, Grenada from January 20-22. The forum is being held under the theme “Sustainable Growth for Prosperity”, and will be presided over by the Chairman of CARICOM’S Council for Foreign and Community Relations (COFCOR), Sam Condor, and the UK’s Foreign Secretary, William Hague. Discussions will be held under the three broad areas of economic resilience, security and the environment. An action plan will be issued at the conclusion of the forum.
A number of firms from the Caribbean and the UK will accompany the delegations to participate in a business meeting on January 21. This meeting is intended to provide a medium through which the Caribbean private sector can explore trade and investment opportunities with the United Kingdom. It is also a forum that can be used by the Caribbean private sector to address any challenges they may be experiencing in doing business with the UK.
The forum will come to an end with a cricket match on the afternoon of Sunday 22. This event is of particular importance as the region endeavours to encourage healthy living and lifestyles, and promote the control and prevention of non-communicable disease through sport.
