COMMUTERS using the East Coast Demerara highway are being assured that, within the next couple of days, rehabilitation of the bridge at Cottage will be completed.
This assurance was given by the contractor, Mr. Roy Bassoo, of R. Bassoo and Sons, in a telephone interview with the Guyana Chronicle.
According to him, works on the structure are almost 90 percent complete and they are working tirelessly to finish by the stipulated deadline.
“We are presently wrapping up… what is left to do is to install the concrete slabs. Apart from that, we are on target for completion,” Bassoo maintained.
In addition to this, he noted that they have finished construction of the two technical centres and both buildings have been formally handed over to the Ministry of Education.
The one at Leonora, West Coast Demerara, has already been commissioned and the other at Cottage is in use, since it, too, was delivered since September, Bassoo added.
Some $875M were budgeted this year to facilitate the building of technical and vocational facilities in Regions 3 (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara) and 5 (Mahaica/Berbice).
The projects were funded by the Government of Guyana, with the support of a loan from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) for the enhancement of technical and vocational education and training programme, the Ministry of Education being the executing agency.
