Father who allegedly bashed in daughter’s head to appear in court before weekend

Police yesterday said that the father who reportedly bashed in the head of his daughter, Onica Greaves, on Monday at Corriverton on the Upper Corentyne, Berbice, may appear in court before this weekend.
According to police, the 33-year-old self-employed cake decorator had reportedly gone to visit her aunt with whom her father resided, at about 12:30 hrs on Monday; and while there, a heated argument developed between her and her father, during which she was physically assaulted by the man, who had reportedly tied her hands and repeatedly struck her to the head with a piece of wood until he had bashed her head in.
Her aunt and neighbours, having tried in vain to get the man to discontinue his assault of his daughter, summoned the police for assistance. Police found Onica Greaves lying motionless on the ground, brain matter scattered around her.
She was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital, but was pronounced dead on arrival. According to unconfirmed reports, the woman was beaten to death by her father after she unplugged an iron he was using at his home at Lot 566 Princetown,  Corriverton,  on Monday.
The woman  had made the usual daily trek  to the address, to assist  her father, who  lived with his 83-year-old Aunt, Carolynn Ferdinand, known as ‘Doreen’, with their  daily domestic chores.
According to Ferdinand, her great niece of Scottsburg, another area in the Corentyne township, visited her home at about midday Monday, and was cleaning the house when the suspect [Charles Albert], went into her bedroom, took out an iron, and began ironing his clothes.
As a result, Onika was instructed not to unplug the iron which she did, and which resulted in an argument. The disagreement between the duo escalated after the suspect allegedly dealt  his daughter several slaps about her face.
Consequently, she became annoyed and allegedly armed herself with a cutlass, whilst her father picked up a piece of wood.

The disagreeing father and daughter were ordered out of the house by the elderly woman. They then went into the yard where a fight ensued, resulting in Greaves falling to the ground, during which period it is alleged that she was stuck with a piece of wood, several times to her head, resulting in her  skull  being shattered.
After committing the act, the 51-year-old unemployed suspect, threw the murder weapon away before being arrested by the police.
He remains in police custody and is assisting with investigations.
