SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Jairam Singh, of La Belle Alliance, Essequibo Coast, is now unable to walk after he was bitten, one week ago, by a wild monkey while sweeping the yard in which he lives. Singh, who is pursuing studies at Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE) in Georgetown, had returned home for a break and was in his backyard, on November 27, when the monkey, which usually roams the village, attacked him and bit the tendon on his left foot just below the ankle, badly damaging the main vein.
To get the aggressive animal off him, he had to lash it with the broom stick, before being rushed to hospital where doctors stitched the vein and bandaged the entire foot.
Singh said he made a report to the police but no attempt has yet been made to capture the monkey.
Meanwhile, he cannot resume his course at the CPCE.
