– Dr. Jagan Jr. says
– claims Nagamootoo is trying to hurt and destroy his father’s legacy
Dr. Cheddi Jagan Jnr. contends that no one man can ever fill the space of his father’s legacy. He added that Alliance For Change (AFC) member, the politician Moses Nagamootoo, is trying to hurt and destroy his father’s legacy.
The junior Dr Jagan spoke to the press, reaffirming his endorsement of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) and its presidential candidate Donald Ramotar.
Dr. Jagan Jnr. had this to say: “Moses, whom I’ve known a long time, talks as if he is the embodiment of Cheddi Jagan’s Legacy, but what he fails to understand is that no one man can ever fill the space of Jagan’s legacy; whereas, Uncle Donald, as he is referred to on the streets now, understands that even a thousand men of high calibre would find it a difficult job.”
The junior Jagan, who has joined the Civic component of the ruling party, stated that this understanding gives Ramotar the humility, high moral fibre, and ability to keep an open mind to listen to the concerns of even the poorest citizens.
He said, “Mr. Nagamootoo often infers and compares himself to the biblical Moses, but let me remind him that holy books, including the New Testament, are the defining truths of mankind and should be left sacrosanct…Since he invoked the Moses of the First Testament, let me remind him that the real Moses gathered his people and left Egypt to create a better way of life in The Promise Land.”
According to him, Nagamootoo, as depicted in one of the daily newspaper, has no flock to lead.
“The Promised Land is the AFC with its key (party symbol), which, as the Guyanese people will understand as this election unfolds, is a key that cannot find a lock to open,” the junior Jagan posited.
He pointed to the fact that at the Alliance For Change (AFC) rally on Thursday last, the ex-party member referred to the movie ‘El Cid’ with Charlton Heston and compared himself to the movie’s hero.
“I saw the movie at the Astor cinema in the pit section during the 1960s, and I thank Mr. Nagamootoo for bringing El Cid up, because that movie was always one of my favorites.
“Moses is comparing himself with the hero of that movie. Let me remind Moses that ‘El Cid’ was a man who never abandoned the unity, strength and determination of Spain itself in the fight against invasion and aggression by others,” the junior Jagan said.
He questioned whether Nagamootoo wasn’t abandoning the very nature and good of the late Dr. Cheddi Jagan’s Legacy.
“Why does Moses leave as Mr. Ramotar and the PPP/C face a critical election?” he asked. “And Moses said that without Nagamootoo the PPP/C cannot win the elections! We will see, because Joey is back home, and I pledge to the Guyanese people that their concerns will be my concern, their hurts will be my hurt, and their celebration of a better life is all I want.”
The junior Jagan called for Nagamootoo to remember Alexander the Great’s shouts to his famous Macedonian army as they faced their greatest battle in 327 BC: “Every man must step into the gap and win this victory”.
“I have always written and spoken from the heart, and I can tell the Guyanese people that hope is alive and well in this party my great father built and nurtured throughout his illustrious life, and that is what brought me back home,” Dr Cheddi ‘Joey’ Jagan stressed.
