-speaks briefly to relatives
PARMANAND Bacchus, the Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara fisherman who was shot and injured when two men attacked him at the Strathspey seawall on Friday at about 10:10 hrs, remained a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation up to press time. Relatives yesterday said the 45-year-old man was yet to undergo surgery to remove the bullet which is still lodged in his head.
Yesterday, the semi-conscious patient spoke briefly to his relatives when they visited him.
Police reported on Friday that a woman has been arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Relatives told the Guyana Chronicle that the woman in police custody is his ex-wife, with whom he is locked in a bitter property dispute. She resides on the upper flat of their two-storey house while Bacchus lives in the bottom flat.
The duo was to appear in court on Monday for a hearing in their matter.
The father of one was fishing at the seawall when two men showed up and after identifying him, said they were sent to ‘do a job’, whereupon they fired several shots at him.
He was reportedly held down and shot at close range, causing a bullet to become lodged in his head. After that ordeal, the men threw him into the channel before escaping.
It is believed that the men had intended to execute Bacchus, but he miraculously survived.
