COMMISSIONER of Police Leslie James will be conferred with the Disciplined Services Star (DSS) by Chancellor of the Orders of Guyana President David Granger, for sustained and dedicated service of a high order in the Guyana Police Force.
Commissioner James held the post of Commander of ‘C’ Division from July 25, 2018, up until his recent appointment. Between the period 2014-2015, James held the posts of officer-in-charge of the Project Office, Eve Leary; head of the Criminal Investigations Department; and head of the Special Branch.
James on his appointment as police commissioner recently said he had always wanted to become the top cop.
“This moment is a moment I’ve always waited for and now being appointed commissioner of police, [I will function] without favour, affection, malice or ill-will,” he committed.
James added that he is fully aware of his mandate, which includes ensuring that all the laws of Guyana are maintained and that public peace is kept in a “professional and unbiased manner.”
“I will execute the office of commissioner of police and ensure that persons in the diaspora and overseas to be assured of their respective security,” James had assured on his appointment.
James holds a host of qualifications including a law degree and a diploma in public management from the University of Guyana (UG). He is also currently enrolled in the Commonwealth Master’s in Public Administration programme at the University of Guyana.
