— three arrested
THREE persons are in police custody following the death of a 43-year-old man at Swamp Section, Rose Hall Town in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
Dead is Wayne Sundarsingh called ‘Wino’ of Lot 316 Fifth Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice. He was reportedly imbibing at a friend’s home in Bulletwood Street, a short distance away from his home when he was found by relatives in an unconscious state.
According to the man’s mother Morti Sundarsingh, she was told that her son was at his friend’s home since 14:00hrs on Friday ‘drinking’ when he suffered an epileptic attack and fell in front of the friend’s yard and became unresponsive.
“A boy come and said ‘Wino’ been a drink since afternoon and he fall down in front he house and let we go move him because he nah want police story. When them gal go them see he face swell up and he bleeding from his ears and head,” the mother said.
She said from what she was told, based on the injuries Wayne suffered, it appears that he was beaten.
He was picked up and rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital but was immediately transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital. At the New Amsterdam Hospital, relatives were told that Wayne suffered internal injuries.
A decision was made to take him to the Georgetown Public Hospital but he died on the way.
Wayne’s relatives are calling on the police to investigate the incident as a homicide since they are adamant that since his body bore marks of violence which are not consistent with a fall.
Commander of B Division Lyndon Alves confirmed that three persons have been arrested but the matter is being treated as an incident, until a post mortem examination is conducted to ascertain the cause of death.
According to information, Wayne, an epileptic, reportedly frequently imbibes. Relatives are contending that he suffered similar attacks in the past where he fell and was found in unconscious but never had multiple injuries.
