Courts optical U-11 football finals…

THE finals of the Courts Optical U-11 football finals will see a new champion being crowned.

Saturday’s quarter final and semi-final action at the Ministry of Education ground saw heated action, but when the dust settled City-side, Georgetown International Academy, will tackle the hinterland team Waramuri Primary at the Ministry of Education ground on CARIFESTA Avenue next weekend in the final, and both sides had interesting paths there.

Georgetown International Academy had a difficult time seeing off the challenges of 2024 champions, Santa Rosa, who held them 1-1 at the end of regulation time in the semi-final.

After extra time failed to change the scoreline, it went to penalty kicks, where GIA won it comfortably 4-1.

In the earlier quarterfinal, GIA beat Potaro 3-2 to reach the semis, with Santa Rosa edging former champion Marian Academy 8-7 in another clash that went to penalty kicks.

Meanwhile, Waramuri stunned Tucville Primary 5-1 to earn the right to play for the title.

Lemar Matthias led Waramuri with a hat trick of goals coming in the 17th, 18th, and 22nd minutes.

Aaden Williams and Riyad Peters accounted for the other goals.

Interior side Waramuri again showed their pedigree by axing defending champions Leonora Primary in their quarter finals.

It was a one-sided affair as Lemar Matthias, Aaden Williams, and Zonder France got onto the scoresheet for the win.

In the other quarterfinals, Tucville beat West Ruimveldt 3-1 on penalty kicks.

The finals are set for Saturday, October 24, at the same venue.

Apart from winning trophies and prizes for the winning team, players will be awarded individual honors such as highest goal scorer, MVP, and best keeper
