-as $181M CRIP contract signed
RESIDENTS of Region 5 will soon benefit from rehabilitated roads between Rosignol and Zeelust, as a Community Road Improvement Project (CRIP) $131M contract was signed yesterday by B & J Civil Works at the Rosignol Market. The event was attended by Minister of Housing and Water Irfaan Ali; Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall; Karen Roopchand, Project Coordinator, CRIP; Neighbourhood Democratic Council Chairman, Shameer Ally; and Regional Democratic Council Chairman, Harrinarine Baldeo.
This is another government initiative to invest in the improvement of the country’s infrastructure which will see 14 roads being rehabilitated, asphalted and marked for pedestrians’ safety; the rehabilitation of a culvert; and a total rehabilitation of the drainage and irrigation system between Rosignol and Zeelust.
Nigel Dharamlall, speaking at the contract signing, urged residents to play an active part in the development of their community by showing an active interest during the construction of the works. Harrinarine Baldeo expressed gratitude on behalf of the community for the realisation of a dream for residents.
Minister Irfaan Ali lamented that in his early years in the public sector, one had to dedicate at least two days to travel from Georgetown to Berbice and back. However, yesterday, he and his team attended the Berbice Exposition and after leaving Berbice in the wee hours of the morning, travelled to Region 3 and made it back to Rosignol, Region 5 before 10:30hrs. This he said is testimony to the investments the current administration has made over the years to improve infrastructure, which benefits the lives of all citizens.
July 15 last saw a similar CRIP contract project inked, valued at $188M, for the rehabilitation of 14 old housing scheme roads in Bath, Region 5, where approximately 13,000 residents of that area will benefit. On July 19, another contract worth $163M, benefitting 35,000 residents in Tuschen and Uitvlugt, Region 3, was signed by Dipcon Engineering Services Limited. (GINA)
