Police ranks awarded for outstanding work

RANKS from the Guyana Police Force were yesterday awarded some $8M dollars for the outstanding work that they have executed for the year 2011. Police Commissioner Mr. Henry Greene has commended the officers for arriving, thus far, and urged them to vigorously pursue the fight against crime in Guyana.

He made these comments while addressing the GPF’s 172nd anniversary celebration at the Tactical Services Unit, Eve Leary.

Greene pointed to the fact that, despite the many criticisms and challenges, members of the force were able to work successfully in implementing strategies that could combat the issues affecting society from their level.

“Persons out there who try to discourage us will continue to fail because we have been continuing to succeed, even though we were shot down with all sorts of negativity,” the top cop posited.

“We have to understand that critics live among us and will condemn our every move, but nevertheless, works must go on,” Greene told the officers.

He said that people are not conscious that these crimes and more are happening all over the world, but they (critics) are ready to look at the local folk differently.

Meanwhile, he added that no setbacks will occur in dealing severely with police officers who fit themselves into compromising positions.

“Once we know that you are hiding from us when we set a court date, and especially when you are an officer in the force, we will not mince matters; we will deal with you severely,” Greene warned.

“We have continuously made efforts to rise above crime, but everything takes time,” he added.

He noted that strategies have been implemented to have disciplinary measures meted out to officers who are involved in any illicit activities.
