Stole cop’s phone; claims he was drunk

A STABROEK Market businessman on Friday appeared before a city magistrate charged with simple larceny.

It is alleged that on January 25, 2018 while at the Brickdam Police Station, Gary Kanile stole Police Constable Patrick Morris’ cellphone worth $45,000.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge and explained to the court that at the time he was under the influence of alcohol and that caused him to commit the act.
He was fined $40,000 by Magistrate Leron Daly but if he fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve six weeks in prison.
