Digicel New York Caribbean Cup …

New-look Guyana tackle Grenada on Sunday
A NEW-LOOK Guyana team will be going for their second win in the 2011 Digicel Caribbean Cup tournament in New York when they do battle with Grenada on Sunday.
The clash between the two countries will be the opening game of a planned triple-header at the Thomas Jefferson High School playfield in Brooklyn and Guyana will be looking to make full use of their newly acquired players.

National captain Howard Lowe, goalkeeper Ronson Williams, strikers Devon Millington and Dwight Peters, along with Abassy McPherson, Clive Nobrega and Pierre Joseph will feature for the Guyanese team as they confront the men from the Spice Island.
The Guyanese are coming off a superb 3-0 win over St Lucia where they were guided to victory thanks to a hat-trick of goals from National youth striker Kevin Beaton.
This would be Guyana’s third game in the tournament after opening with a goalless draw against Dominica on May 15.
Fourteen nations – all being represented by players from the tri-state area – are competing for the top prize of $10 000. This year marks the third year that Digicel is a part of the event that is celebrating its 20th year of existence.
Guyana have never won the tournament, of which Jamaica are the defending champions. The Jamaicans have so far won the event a massive seven times and are holding the cup since 2005.
St Vincent and the Grenadines (5), Grenada (3), Trinidad and Tobago (1) and Barbados (1) are the only other countries to ever claim the coveted title.
The tournament, which was designed to give Caribbean players living in the U.S. a chance to showcase their talents, started on Sunday, May 15 and will climax on September 4 in conjunction with the Labour Day celebrations in New York.
Digicel has been involved in a wide range of football initiatives, designed to support the development of football in the Caribbean and Central America over the last six years. Digicel sponsors 17 football federations and leagues, as well as the Digicel Caribbean Cup and the Copa de Naciones Digicel in Central America.
