CASTRIES, St Lucia — Danielle Beaubrun captured the island’s second medal at the 26th Central American and Caribbean Championships when she placed second for the silver medal in the 50-metre breaststroke with a new National Record of 33.83 seconds. Swimming in the morning of July 2, at the Piscinas Bolivarianas Aquatic Center in the Venezuelan city of Barquisimeto, she placed 4th in the Preliminaries with a time of 35.66 seconds behind Mercedes Toledo of Venezuela (34.81) Kimba Collymore of Trinidad (34.90) and Johana Barreiro of Venezuela (35.54).
Later that evening in the finals, however, Danielle swam a new St Lucia National Record time of 33.83, demolishing the previous mark of 34.32 by half a second and collected the silver medal.
This is the second medal and national record in as many days as she captured gold and National Record on Monday night in the 200m breaststroke.
The female swimmers deserved a day of rest yesterday, as only Jean Luc Augier and Runako Daniel have the 100m fly to swim.
Danielle Beaubrun swims her final breaststroke event today and all swimmers do the “splash and dash” 50-metre freestyle tomorrow.
