WENDELL Meusa played unbeaten while Sue Hai Feng returned to form, as they captured the senior and junior titles of the first Guyana Chess Federation (GCF)-organised Caribbean Container Incorporated (CCI) chess tournament which concluded at the Kei-shar’s Sports Club last Sunday. Based on the Progress tiebreaker system, Meusa, who secured five wins and two draws coming against national champion Taffin Khan and Pierre Boucher, walked away with the senior crown ahead of Boucher who had also secured five wins and two draws against Meusa and Shiv Nandalall, to end with the same number of points as Meusa.
Taffin Khan finished in third position with 5½ points from five wins, one draw and his lone loss suffered at the hands of Boucher in round four.
The final points standing in the senior category is as follows; Wendell Meusa and Pierre Boucher 6 points, Taffin Khan 5½ points, Shiv Nandalall, Alex Joseph and David Khan 3 points each and Hatram Parbat 1½ points.
Sue Hai Feng ended the junior category on 6½ points from seven games to capture the junior title from Anthony Drayton (6 points), while Rashad Hussain and Saeed Ali rounded off the podium finishers with 5 and 4 points respectively.
Roberto Neto was adjudged the most improved player in the junior category.
Human Resources Manager of CCI, Jimmy Lorimar, was on hand to present the prizes to the winners while the GCF took the opportunity to thank the sponsors for their generous support.
