Local race-walkers to take on Caribbean counterparts Monday

LOCAL race-walkers are expected to take on their Caribbean counterparts when the Cavaliers Sports and Tours Club (CSTC), the main promoters of the sport in Guyana, stages a CARICOM Day race event on Monday.

Guyana’s top race-walker Rudolph Mitchell, vying for his 92nd consecutive local title, is expected to receive a strong challenge from local competitor Jonathan Fagundes.

According to a release by CSTC the race is expected to begin at the Ogle Airport entrance and proceed north along the Airport Road, turning west unto the Railway Embankment and finishing at the CARICOM Headquarters at Liliendaal.

CSTC stated that walkers will be competing in the Senior Male and Female, Juniors, Veterans and the Differently-Abled categories for the race that starts at 06:00 h.

CSTC’s Coordinator Ms Olga Harry is making an appeal for the corporate entities, sport-loving individuals and the Sport Ministry to support the event by donating trophies, water and other prizes.

Donors can send rheir items to the CSTC headquarters at Backroad, Soesdyke while financial contributions can be made to Citizens Bank on Camp Street to Acct. #218331151.
