A successful operation by the Joint Services resulted in the capture of five prisoners who escaped from the holding facility next to the Lusignan prison, East Coast Demerara between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Those recaptured have been identified as Odel Roberts, Jamal Forde, Rayon Jones, Winston Long and Teshawn McKenzie. According to the Department of Public Information, Roberts, Forde and Jones were found in Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara and the others in Georgetown.

There are still eight prisoners on the run; they include: Tishawn McKenzie, Kerry Cromwell, Pascal Smith, Kendell Skeete, Paul Goriah, Jamal Joseph and Jason Howard.

Prison authorities confirmed that the 13 prisoners fled from the facility via a makeshift, underground conduit. The men were discovered missing on Monday morning when a head count was made. Reports are that the men dug a hole in the ground at the pasture within the confines of the prison.

Mere hours after escaping, Roberts, who has since been recaptured, posted on Facebook, thanking God for keeping him alive. The murder accused posted: “God thanks u for my life the night I’m now out of jail, just want bad girl by myself now.”

Roberts’ Facebook page has been busy in the last few weeks since the July 9 Camp Street fire and jailbreak. His page has been active with posts about the conditions prisoners were made to live under at the Lusignan prison since the fire gutted sections of the Camp Street prison.
