Len’s Craft Optical/Sunburst OJ U 15 League

Pele bang GFC; Flamingo beat GFC; Santos & Riddim Squad draw
A double from Pele forward Kevin Andrews, nephew of Guyana’s first MLS player Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson piloted Pele to a convincing 4-1 win over Georgetown Football Club (GFC) when competition in the inaugural Len’s Craft Optical / Sunburst Orange Juice Under-15 tournament continued Saturday at the GFC ground.
Also in winners row on day three of the League was Flamingo and in convincing style too.
They sailed past Fruta Conquerors 3-1 while Santos fought back from a goal down against a much improved Riddim Squad to earn an equal share of the points after a 1-1 stalemate.
The Pele/GFC feature clash was the first game for the former who was awarded full points from Houston Stars  failed to show up for their encounters on the preceding match days.
They {Houston Stars} have since been axed from the competition.
Pele showed no signs of rust – players at this level not being active for almost two years – and went about their victory in businesslike fashion almost immediately. Andrews opened the scoring in just the 2nd following some good work in the middle.
GFC, enjoying home advantage did not allow Pele to keep their lead for too long as they responded in like manner 11 minutes later through a well taken shot from Shamar Barrow who dribbled past defenders of the right side of goal; his powerful shot sailed across goalkeeper Rashawn Hicks to make contact with the nest at the far post.
The exchanges continued but it was Pele, with their daft and crisp touches that controlled proceedings; GFC did create some opportunities of their own.
On 22-minutes the nippy Andrews was on target once more handing his team the advantage yet again. The half ended with the score in favour of Pele 2-1 and the home team sensing that they were in with a good chance of drawing level.
But that was quite the case in the second half of the game; Pele controlling play and nailing two more goals to seal the win and full points.
Brazilian Jerry Da Silva who made some enterprising runs down the flanks finally breached the GFC defense by banging the nets in the 36th minute, six minutes after the break. Putting the game beyond the reach of GFC which remain on 1 point from their two matches, 5 behind leaders Pele, was Romallo Fraser in the 44th minute.
The second game of the morning saw Riddim Squad which had suffered defeat to Flamingo the previous Saturday almost headed for an upset win over Santos.
Based at Mocha on the East Bank of Demerara, Riddim Squad found very good rhythm which enabled them to match Santos play for play to the extent that the first half failed to produce any goals.
Santos, still enjoying the lead in Group 2 (7 points) from 3-matches found it difficult to get cracking as they would have liked against a more focused Riddim Squad team.
Forty-two minutes into the clash, Kester Joseph broke the deadlock to hand Riddim Squad the advantage.
As the minutes ticked away towards the end of the game, it looked like Riddim Squad were destined for an upset win but with two minutes to full time, the magic equalizer came off the boot of Travis Fitzpatrick for Santos.
Opening action produced a big win for Flamingo who prevailed  3-1 over Fruta Conquerors. Andre Webber in the 20th minute, Colin Waterman two minutes later and Dapper Johnson 5 minutes into the second half were all on target for Flamingo, who now occupy the second place in Group 2, a single point behind leaders Pele.
Netting a consolation goal for Conquerors was Delroy Hollison in the 40th minute.
Competition will continue this Saturday at the same venue.
