NATIONAL record holder Troy Doris became the latest Guyanese to qualify for the IAAF World Championships in August, after he cleared 16.80m at the 56th Ostrava Golden Spike on Wednesday in Czech Republic.
Doris’ jump was exactly on the qualifying mark to make it to World Championships in August. He now joins Winston George, Brenessa Thompson and Kadecia Baird as Guyana’s qualifiers for the meet.
George, also a national record holder, has already qualified in the men’s 400m, while Thompson and Baird made the time for the women’s 200m.
The jump saw the 28-year-old finish in second place behind World number one USA’s Christian Taylor. Twenty-seven-year-old Taylor lunged to a win with a 17.57m leap, his second best jump of the season.
Latvia’s Elvijs Misans was in for third covering 16.74m in his best attempt.
This leaves Doris at number 32 in the current world ranking.
