GUYANA’S national futsal team launched their Inter Guiana Games (IGG) title defence in spectacular fashion, securing a hard-fought 6-4 victory over French Guiana at the Anthony Nesty Stadium in Paramaribo, Suriname on Friday.
The defending champions demonstrated exceptional determination and resilience in a fiercely contested encounter, overcoming a spirited French Guiana side to claim an important opening victory.
Quaency Fraser gave Guyana a dream start with an early goal, while Darius Chester and Mark Glasgow also found the net in the first half, which ended 3-3.
With the match delicately balanced, Chester completed his brace in the second half before French Guiana equalised at 4-4. Jamal Fraser then delivered two decisive late goals to seal a thrilling victory for Guyana.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Gregory “Jackie Chan” Richardson and Assistant Coach Jermain Junor, the team displayed the fighting spirit and composure expected of defending champions.
The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) congratulates the players, coaching staff and management on their outstanding start to the competition, as they continue to represent Guyana with pride on the regional stage.
Having captured the IGG futsal title on home soil in 2025, Guyana will now turn its attention to a highly anticipated clash against hosts Suriname today as the team pursues consecutive championship titles.
The GFF extends its best wishes to the entire contingent as they continue their mission to bring the IGG futsal trophy home once again. (GFF)
