Teenage housewife charged with gun, ganja possession

AN 18-year-old housewife of Plegtanker Village, East Bank Berbice, was granted $180, 000 bail after she pleaded not-guilty to charges of being in possession of an improvised gun, ammunition and cannabis sativa.
On Monday June 19, a party of police, acting on information, went to the home of Reshma Ragganadan, which she shared with her reputed husband, Lakeram Bakan. But, Bakan was seen fleeing the scene as the police approached, leaving his wife behind.
Following the search, the party of policemen found an improvised shot gun, four 20-gauge live cartridges and four grams of cannabis sativa. The unrepresented woman was arrested, told of the offence, and detained, before the charges were instituted. However, following her appearance before Magistrate Marissa Mitthelholzer, she pleaded not guilty to the charges and the matter has been transferred to Sisters Magistrate Court for July 18, 2017.
