Three teams qualify for 2017/2018 CONCACAF Club competition

THREE teams from the finals of the Caribbean Club Championships currently underway in Trinidad and Tobago secured places in the 2017/18 CONCACAF club competition after matches played at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Tuesday.
In the second of two matches on the night Grenades FC of Antigua and Barbuda battled from a two-goal deficit to draw with Cibao FC of the Dominican Republic.
After a scoreless first half, Cibao FC went ahead 2-0 thanks to goals by Woodensky Cherenfant (54th, 56th), but that lead slipped away late in the match.
Grenades FC halved the deficit in the 85th minute and then equalised on Cesar Garcia-Danco’s own-goal one minute later.
The result means that two-time defending champions Central FC who defeated Grenades 3-1 in their opening match on Sunday clinched a berth in either the Scotiabank CONCACAF League or the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.
Meanwhile, Central FC will advance to the final with a draw against Cibao FC today. Cibao need to get all three points in order to reach the decider.
Earlier Portmore United of Jamaica sealed a place in either the Scotiabank CONCACAF League or the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League thanks to a 1-0 win over Racing FC (Haiti).
Ricardo Morris, who scored a team-best two goals in first-round play, netted the game-winner in the 17th minute with a left-footed shot from the top of the box off an assist by Cleon Pryce.
The result also means that Trinidad & Tobago’s San Juan Jabloteh, who defeated Racing 2-0 in an earlier match has clinched a berth in either the Scotiabank CONCACAF League or the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.
Racing FC is now eliminated from the competition
The winners of today’s San Juan-Jabloteh-Portmore United encounter will advance to the final. Jabloteh, however, will secure that spot with a draw. (Sportsmax)
