THE Guyana Chronicle wishes to apologise to the Guyanese public for letters that slipped through the editorial net and were inadvertently published in their unedited format on Saturday February 5 and Friday February 11, respectively, under the captions “Pointed questions on grenade incident need to be answered” and “Will another black cultural revolution finally solve the problem?”. This oversight, which was brought to the attention of the Chronicle by the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC), has caused much embarrassment to the senior members of the Chronicle editorial staff and, no doubt, great angst in our readership.
ERC Chairman, Bishop Juan Edghill warned management of the state print media, at a meeting to which the entity was summoned yesterday, that any such lapses in the future would be dealt with condignly by the ERC. The Chronicle gave the executives of the ERC its assurance of greater care in editorial oversight in the future.
Publishing these two letters in their unedited form was a genuine oversight and the Guyana Chronicle once more apologises to its readership.
