CONTRASTING half-centuries from Anthony Bramble, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Christopher Barnwell piloted Leon Johnson’s X1 to a comfortable 90 runs win over Vishaul Singh’s X1 in the second practice game played yesterday at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.The game was part of the Guyana Jaguars preparations ahead of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) Regional Super50 which will commence on January 24 in Barbados and Antigua.
Batting first, Johnson’s X1 reached 289-8, with Bramble smashing his way to a 67-ball 95, inclusive of seven fours and five sixes, while the veteran Chanderpaul made 87 off 115 balls, and Barnwell 56 off 76 balls.
The 42-year-old Chanderpaul shared in two crucial partnerships after his side lost openers Assad Fudadin (5), Shimron Hetmyer (11), Leon Johnson (0) and Raymon Reifer (2), early.
Chanderpaul who hit five boundaries, first shared 90 for the sixth wicket with Barnwell before adding an even 50 with Bramble to boost the innings.
Fast bowler Romario Shepherd was the pick of the bowlers, with figures of 4-62, while there was a wicket apiece for Keon Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Royston Crandon and Raun Johnson.
In the run chase, Singh’s X1 were bowled out for 199 in 45.3 overs. Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul made 85, with four fours and two sixes, while skipper Singh contributed 49.
Left-arm spinner Anthony Adams (3-26) and left-arm seamer Raymon Reifer (3-32) were the most successful bowlers. Veerasammy Permaul and Barnwell had a wicket apiece.
Singh’s X1 won the first game by 49 runs on Wednesday. The Guyana Jaguars will depart for Barbados on January 21.
