Authenticity of Singh’s credentials is being questioned

IT must be clear to Mr. Daniel Singh, as it is to all readers of your newspapers, that no one doubts his existence. People are inquiring about his qualifications as a pastor.

The tone of Mr. Singh’s writing and the strangeness of his claims arouse a legitimate curiosity about his evangelical bona fides.

The authenticity of his credentials is what is being questioned and, not wanting to use the word suspicious, I would say Singh’s hiding of what should be standard public information is most curious.

One person recently pointed out that in the United States there is an evangelical diploma mill where just about anyone can buy a degree in religious affairs. People can study to be a pastor through questionable American correspondence schools and Americans can be ordained as pastors over the internet. Against this background, anyone who lives in the US (as Mr. Singh does) and appends the title of “pastor” to their name should be more than willing to prove that the title is genuine, that it was earned through an accredited theological school or seminary and that he is attached to a known church.

Singh’s “pleading the fifth” about this matter makes me most chary about his religious credibility.

Most importantly, I find it very strange that not one single evangelical in Guyana has written to testify on Daniel Singh’s behalf.
