Injured money-changer Vishwahnauth Nouwbat

AMERICA Street money-changer Vishwahnauth Nouwbat, 32, of “C” Field Sophia, Georgetown was shot in the abdomen on Saturday afternoon after refusing to hand over his day’s earnings to a robber who walked into the Popeye’s Water and America streets’ branch in Stabroek, Georgetown and attempted to rob him while he was sitting with a female companion.

Reports indicate that after Nouwbat refused the bandit’s order to hand over the money he had earned for the day, the robber pulled out a handgun from the left side of his waist and discharged a round at Nouwbat, who received injuries to the left side of his abdomen.

Public-spirited citizens assisted in carrying him to a police vehicle that was summoned to the scene, and he was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC). No one has as yet been arrested, but investigations are continuing.
