SIX of Guyana’s best quarter-mile drivers will journey to Suriname next weekend to participate in MotoSur’s Suriname Drag Fest, dubbed the ‘Battle of the Guianas’. The Guyanese, namely Sanjay Persaud, Asurdeen Mohammed, Annand Ramchand, Shawn Persaud as well as the Dabi brothers Peter and Rondel will make the journey to take on the best of Suriname in a three-day affair.
Sanjay, who rose to fame after months of work on his Mazda Rx-7 will hope to be among the top contenders representing the Golden Arrowhead.
He will have as backup Annand Ramchand and his team as well as Shawn Persaud.
Meanwhile as if Guyana hadn’t enough firepower on the unit, the Dabi brothers, Peter and Rondel will also make the trip to the Dutch capital.
Rondel with his Supra had ruled the roost locally until damage to his Toyota Supra ruled him out of the last encounter in Guyana. Meanwhile, his brother Peter, who pilots a Mazda Rx-7 will also be on the attack. Considered by many locals as a dark horse, his title may have very much to do with the colour of his machine.
The team will further be strengthened by reigning champion Asurdeen Mohammed who is expected to take both of his Nissan GTRs, Nismo and Godzilla, as they are nicknamed, to the three-day event.
The three-day event will kick off tomorrow with a test and tune while the locals will take to the scene on Saturday followed by the final dial-in for the foreign competition.
Sunday will see the grand finale of races.
