Deteriorated Hampton Court canal bridge being reconstructed

THE Government, through the Regional Administration in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), has started reconstruction of the deteriorating timber bridge, over a drainage canal at Hampton Court, that leads to the Essequibo Coast Public Road.
Contractor for the job, Mr. Doodnauth Samaroo is currently removing the rotten greenheart planks and beams from one section of the overpass, using a dragline and an excavator.
He is to install new greenheart components while the surface is to be cast in concrete with steel reinforcement.
Some drivers of motor vehicles as well as motorcyclists and pedal cyclists, who had complained about the bad state of the structure, told the Guyana Chronicle they are happy that Government has responded quickly to their complaints and ordered the rehabilitation.
