FOUR city teams will begin battling this evening at the Tucville ground for top honours in the Camptown Football Club’s fund-raising Goodwill competition.
The teams are Guyana Defence Force (GDF), Fruta Conquerors, BK International Western Tigers and Sunburst Camptown.
From 18:00 h, GDF face Fruta Conquerors, while from 20:00 h, Western Tigers take on Camptown.
The competition will come to an end on Sunday evening at the same venue with the losing teams from this evening’s matches squaring off for the third place and the two winning teams battling for top honours.
The winning team will receive $80 000 and the Marlon Hendricks Memorial trophy while the second-, third- and fourth-placed teams will be rewarded with $40 000, $20 000 and $10 000.
With such a prize money at stake for a two-day competition all four teams will fancy their chances and with all four teams without the services of a few of their players, who are on national duty with the `Golden Jaguars’ in Suriname, it is anyone’s guess who will walk away with the first prize.
The army will be led Ryan Adolph and Royan Morrison on the strike line and they will expect support from midfielders Sherlock Dowden and Eusi Phillips, while the defence will be marshalled by Marlon Benjamin and Warren Gilkes.
Dellon Young will perform duties between the uprights.
Responding for Fruta Conquerors will be, among others, Julyon Harry, Gerald Gritten, Devon Forde, Lennox Charles, Deon Richardson, Junior Witherspoon and Lumumba Hinds.
For the feature match, Orlando Gilgeous, Rishawn Sandiford, Kris Comacho, Kester Allen, Sceyon Hope and Telson McKinnon will play a key role for Sunburst Camptown, while Dwayne Daniels, Jorel Tyrell, Kevin Gordon, Shermon David, Maxwell Pellew and Vashile Cantzlaar will respond for Western Tigers.
