Old Fort seeking first points against Hikers

THE Old Fort Hockey Club will be seeking their first points in the 2009 Farfan and Mendes Division One tournament when the two teams meet today from 16:45 h at the GCC ground.

The last time these two teams met in an outdoor tournament was in the 2007 version of this very tournament and Hikers came out on top, winning in both the first and second round.

However, Old Fort played a good brand of hockey last Friday, but was unfortunate to have lost that match.

Hikers, on the other hand, held points leaders GCC to a 2-2 draw to secure one point.

GCC currently have four points from a win (three points) and a draw.

This afternoon Old Fort will be coming up against a powerful Hikers line-up which includes strikers Robert France and Shaquille Assanah, midfielders Alex Gouveia and Randy Hope, centre midfielders Devin Hooper and Shane Samuels, first stopper Jerazano Bell, Brian Asregado, Robert Fernandes and Sheldon Corlette in the defence.

Responding for Old Fort will be John Abrams and Askofu Simon on the strike line, Dexter Wyles, Dwayne Allen, Chris Lowe and Jason DeSantos in the midfield and Wayne St Jules, Dwight Sullivan, Ivor Thompson and Aderemi Simon in the defence.

Mikael Smith will perform duties between the upright.

According to Bell, no local team had beaten Hikers in an outdoor tournament for the past three years and they (Hikers) do not intend to lose this afternoon.

Bell, however, acknowledged that there are quite a number of seasoned players in Old Fort’s line-up and they (Hikers) would not be taking them lightly.
