Thanks to President Jagdeo…
I REFER to Bilal Eusi Nantambu’s letter in SN 20.5.10, in which he questions both Presidents Obama and Jagdeo’s respective awards. I will respond only to his offings on Guyana’s president award.
His contention is that President Jagdeo has not done anything noteworthy to deserve such an accolade. Well, what a statement! Such eminent international personalities as Britain’s Lord Stern, author of the seminal report on the economics of climate change, and Kenya’s professor Dr Wangari, Africa’s first female recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, albeit for work on keeping the earth green, must either be blind/oblivious to ongoing work in their chosen field, or enjoy sending congratulatory messages as a hobby. Of course, these two acclaimed climate change contributors sent congratulations to President Jagdeo, for they are au fait with his outstanding efforts.
Even though Nantambu contends that there was neither favour nor consensus among the nation’s indigenous peoples with regards the LCDS, it still does not detract from the President’s outstanding work. His work is universally ACCLAIMED; for he has been an international crusader, appearing at every available forum on this most critical challenge that mankind now faces. And, again, his efforts will bring handsome benefits to this nation, as evidenced by the imminent expectation of some US$30M.
Just to remind Mr Nantambu, President Jagdeo is scheduled to attend a REDD+ conference in Spain, at which he is expected to play a very important role. Guyana has become a leading state in the battle to save the planet. Thanks to President Jagdeo’s selfless and unceasing crusade.
Moreover, the decision to award His Excellency, Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo such an award was made by a body of international scholars. Guyana, did not have an input in such an adjudication. It is as simple as that, Mr Nantambu!
Guyana now a leading light in battle to save planet
