… Ricky Deonarain smashes 128
THE softball match between the Floodlights and the Canada Select squad was played at the National Park tarmac last Tuesday night after it was switched from the GCC ground, Bourda due to rain. Both teams were eager to face each other and the match was a thrilling contest. Floodlights, winning the toss and batting, first made 269 for 8 off their allotted 25 overs, with Ricky Deonarain hitting the ball all over the park, scoring 128 with 8 sixes and 7 fours off 60 balls.
He was well supported by Tulshi Sahadeo 33, Richard Persaud 29 and Surendra Nauth 27. Orlando Deonarine and Ram Singh were Canada’s best bowlers with two wickets each.
When Canada batted they were always in the run chase but fell short by 14 runs, reaching 255 for 9 wickets. Orlando Deonarine 22, Suren Persaud 39, Rajin Paul 24, Rajendra Persaud 19, Raja 24 and special player Vicky Ramsaywack made 24.
Floodlights’ best bowlers were Mike Singh 3 for 20 and Jailall Deodass 3 for 33. The Canada team was made up of Canadian-Guyanese visiting for the T20 World Cup and all trophies were sponsored by Fazil Mirza of Windies Sports Bar, Toronto Canada.
