POLICE “E” Division Commander Superintendent Calvin Brutus and Deputy Commander Inspector Oswald Pitt, accompanied by two other ranks of the division, on Monday went to the Linden Hospital Complex to visit “E” Division anti-crime unit rank Constable McFarlin, who on Saturday morning was stabbed in a robbery by a suspect known to the police, who is said to have already fled to another country illegally over the weekend.

Speaking with the Guyana Chronicle following the visit, the commander said the visit was to ensure that the rank was receiving the best medical care and that he was responding to his treatment.
Brutus explained that the police have since launched a manhunt for the suspect and his accomplice, who were together when they attempted to rob the police rank while he moved away from a group of other policemen during a small recreational outing over the weekend.

The commander said the police have since received information that one of the suspects has skipped the country, while the other may still be in the jurisdiction.

Police Constable McFarlin was on Saturday morning rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex with stab injuries he had sustained just below the collar bone. The wounds were allegedly inflicted by a man who had attempted to rob him and another police rank.

Information reaching this publication over the weekend stated that the rank and several others were present at a location in Linden where a promotion was being held. The injured constable had reportedly left to urinate, and while doing that, the known character approached him and demanded the gold chain he was wearing. And when the rank put up a fight, he was stabbed while the man made off with the chain.

The other police ranks attempted to apprehend the assailant but he managed to enter a waiting car, which with a motorcycle have been impounded by the police as the investigation continues.

The Chronicle was told that the suspect who was driving the vehicle was recently released on a substantial amount of bail from the court after he had been incarcerated for several robberies and other crimes committed in the division.

Police sources have also stated that while the man was in jail the place was not suffering the kind of crimes that incidentally coincides with his release on bail by the court.

The injured Constable Mc Farlin rank is being treated for an incised wound, and is said to be recovering well.
