Persaud wins `Dash For Cash’ feature, but Greaves carts off the lion’s share

ROBIN `The Park Ranger’ Persaud won the feature 40-lap event of the United Bike Cycle Shop annual cycle programme, but third place finisher Alanzo Greaves carted off the lion’s share of the prize money that was up for grabs during the event.

The activity, which was organised by United States-based cyclist Horace Burrowes through his club United Bikers, attracted most of the country’s top cyclists and was well supported by cycling fans and supporters.
From the start of the event, Greaves and Junior Niles went on a break that was short-lived, as, after leading for three laps, they were both pulled in by the main chasing pack
The lead kept changing from there on, as everyone wanted to cash in on the $1 000 prime prize money that was up for grabs for each lap as well as the $3 000 prime that was on offer for the first person to cross the finish line for every three-lap.
In the end, Greaves who outsprinted the chasing pack to occupy the third spot, walked away with $20 000 – $11 000 more than the overall winner, Robin Persaud.
According to Greaves, when the race started, all the participants concentrated on the primes because that was where the money was, and so there were several breaks during the 40-lap event, but when the bell sounded for the final lap, Persaud jumped the tightly knitted pack and opened a slight lead from the back of the course (rugby field) and maintained that until the finish.
Marlon `Fishy’ Williams staved off Greaves to the line to place second.
Burrowes told Chronicle Sport he would stage another `Dash for Cash’ meet next Sunday at the same venue.
He said this is one way of giving back to the sport and he will continue to do it.
In the other race that was staged yesterday, Alexander Leung won the BMX boys two-lap race ahead of Nicholas Dhanraj and Christopher Goring respectively.
