GUYANA’S technical and vocational education will today expand with the launch of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Management Information System (TVET-MIS).

This marks an important step towards strengthening how information across the TVET sector is managed.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) announced this over the weekend, stating that to strengthen technical and vocational education locally, it takes more than skills and training. According to the ministry, reliable information is needed to help in understanding the sector and making informed decisions.

The TVET-MIS system is designed to help manage important information on Student enrollment, attendance, assessments, graduation, lectures and TVET institutions.

According to the MoE, by supporting the collection and management of this information, TVET-MIS will help to provide a “clearer picture” of the sector, and support education planning and decision making, while also strengthening he information that supports technical and vocational education in Guyana.

In April last year, the MoE launched the TVET policy document 2025-2035, which aims to equip learners with world-class skills essential for a dynamic, competitive global economy. It also forms the foundation for economic growth, social inclusion, and individual empowerment by providing practical skills, workforce training, and knowledge while promoting sustainable development, a previous report said.

Additionally, the report stated that the core objectives of the policy aim to improve governance, coordination and management of the TVET sector, by establishing a single, autonomous national institution for planning, coordination, and regulation.
