THE Guyana Water Incorporated’s (GWI) Water Quality Laboratory earlier this week successfully received recertification under the GYS 170:2021 Standard from the Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS), following a comprehensive audit in September 2026.
The laboratory has been certified since 2018 and continues to demonstrate its commitment to maintaining high standards in water quality testing and reliable laboratory operations.
On behalf of GWI, Laboratory Manager, Ms. Angela Fordyce, and Quality Analyst, Ms. Crystal Wall, received the certificate and plaque.
According to the water company, the achievement reflects the team’s continued dedication to accuracy, consistency, and quality assurance in support of GWI’s mandate.
Fordyce, in her speech, expressed appreciation to the GNBS team for its thorough evaluation process, and emphasised the importance of rigorous quality monitoring in ensuring the Department effectively executes its mandate.
She stated, “We are extremely excited to receive our recertification. This just shows that we have been consistent, and I want to thank our team because they have put in the work and the effort and it shows. This shows that other organisations and entities can trust our results.”
Fordyce also credited the laboratory team for its dedication to meeting these requirements, highlighting that the achievement reflects the collective effort involved in maintaining the laboratory’s quality management systems.
The GWI noted that maintaining certification requires consistent attention to laboratory procedures, documentation, quality control, and the reliability of testing results.
The GYS 170:2021 Standard establishes requirements for laboratory operations, providing a framework for maintaining effective quality management practices and supporting the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of laboratory processes.
For GWI, continued compliance with the standard is particularly important given the Water Quality Department’s responsibility for monitoring and assessing water quality.
The successful recertification reinforces GWI’s commitment to strengthening its laboratory operations and maintaining public confidence in the quality monitoring processes that support water service delivery across Guyana.
