– GMR&SC buoyed by support from Ancient County
THOUSANDS of fans turned out on Sunday for the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club’s (GMR&SC) Berbice Invasion drag race meet, representing one of the largest fan turnouts of any event outside the South Dakota Circuit.
The event marked the first time the Rose Hall Canjie venue hosted time- bracket drag racing in GMR&SC’s modern history.
GMR&SC president, Mohamed Shairaz Roshandin, said, “We want to thank all the fans, spectators, and racers who turned out yesterday for our Berbice Invasion. The support and love the ancient county gave GMR&SC left me speechless; I and the team were heartened by the enthusiasm for the event.”
“To see so many fans and racers and their families turn out to the venue tells us that Berbice is definitely going to be something we do on a yearly basis moving forward.
All in all, we had a great day of racing across all classes, and while there
may have been a few setbacks, we overcame them and put on a show. A
big thank you to all again,” he added.
Meanwhile, there were several winners across seven car classes, a female category and three motorcycle classes, with Imran Mohamed Ally’s Tesla Plaid leading the nine-second bracket.
Ally, driving car number 1998, won the nine-second class, while Paramdeo Seeram took the 11-second category in his Toyota Allion 4WD, car number 216.
The other car class winners were Afzal Maiku in a Toyota Corolla Fielder Wagon (#289) in the 16-second class, Ramesh Persaud in a Toyota Corolla Fielder Wagon (#484) in the 15-second class, and Romaine Henry in a Toyota Celica (#81) in the 14-second class.
Roshandin won the 13-second class in his Mitsubishi Evolution X (#30), while Sayyad Ramcharran took the 12-second category in a Toyota Corolla EE90 (#137).
