A 33-year-old gold miner was, on Tuesday, charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition and remanded to prison after appearing at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
Mark Gentle, of Durban Street, Lodge, Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Caressa Henry, where he was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition without a licence, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.
Gentle pleaded not guilty to both charges when they were read to him.
The court subsequently remanded him to prison until November 17, 2026, when he is scheduled to return for further proceedings.
The charges stem from the alleged possession of the firearm and ammunition without the required licence.
Gentle remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a court of law.
