THE People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) and A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) have expressed sadness over the death of long-serving party member and former leader, Robert Herman Orlando Corbin, popularly known as “RHO”.

Corbin, who was 78, served in several senior positions within the PNCR, including National Chairman of the Young Socialist Movement (YSM), General Secretary, and Leader of the party. He also served as Leader of the Opposition.

In a statement, the PNCR described Corbin as an “astute, loyal, disciplined and hardworking” member who served the party and Guyana in several capacities, including as Parliamentary Secretary, Minister, and Deputy Prime Minister.

The party also credited Corbin with being a strong advocate for coalition politics, saying his efforts helped lead the PNCR into coalition politics that eventually resulted in the formation of the APNU+AFC coalition and its victory at the 2015 General and Regional Elections.

Despite his political commitments, Corbin also pursued a professional career in law while continuing to serve the PNCR, the party said.

“During his illness, he continued to give advice to our Party,” the PNCR said.

The party described Corbin’s death as an “irreplaceable loss” and said he would be greatly missed.

It extended condolences to his wife, Carol, his children, relatives, colleagues, and friends, while praying that they would find comfort during their bereavement.

“May his soul rest in peace as we continue to benefit from his lasting contributions to our Party and Guyana,” the PNCR said.
