MINISTER of Public Utilities and Aviation, Deodat Indar, described Thursday as a special day, as he applied for his E-ID card at the Government Office at the Leonora Mall, Region Three.
Reflecting on the significance of the initiative, Indar recalled that, in 2023, he had the privilege of accompanying Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo to the United Arab Emirates, where negotiations were underway to bring the technology to Guyana.

He said the initiative forms part of President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali’s vision of an IT-enabled economy, which is being delivered through the Government Office, officially opened in November 2025.
Indar said the E-ID application process took less than 10 minutes, while commending Minister Zulfikar Ally and his team for their work in delivering the service.
He also singled out young professional Nicolas Powers, who handled his application, noting the professionalism demonstrated throughout the process.
The minister also renewed his driver’s licence at the facility, describing the process as quick and seamless while commending the young professional staff of the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA), which operates from the same facility.
The Government Office also provides several other services, including applications and renewals for birth and marriage certificates, among other government services. (DPI)
