THIS weekend’s opening round of the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) 2026 National Championships will see a unique combination of Jamaican driver Tommi Gore and the hyper-successful J’s brand.
Known for their recent dominance in the horse racing arena as the J’s Racing Stable, the team is looking to replicate that success with their foray into motorsport, and if their track record is anything to go by, it won’t be long before they climb the podium steps.
This weekend brings a new challenge for the team, especially with Jamaican race-ace Tommi Gore set to take the wheel of one Guyana Team’s KTM X-Bow.
Gore said, “(I am) looking forward to being back competing with the One Guyana team. I got the call just this week to ask if I could make it to drive the J’s Supermarket KTM in Group 4.
I’m looking forward to driving against a new set of competitors, as well as getting some more track time ahead of the November 1st Guyana Grand Prix. And most importantly, putting on a show for the patrons coming out to support this event.”
With the excitement just a few days away, J’s Supermarket owner Jermaine Sripal has sized up his chances.
“We are very confident in the car. It’s a group four race, and we have some serious contenders. We have Rameez (Mohamed and the BM Soat/Prem’s Electrical KTM X-Bow) that has almost double the horsepower of our car, but we are still very confident and hoping for some good results.”
“Just like our racing stables, it’s always important to have a great team around us to make things go well, and I think we have a great team around us for this weekend, especially with the introduction of Tommi (Gore),” Sripal said.
Meanwhile, admission for the championship round has been set at $4,000 for adults and $2,000 for children.
Meanwhile, the schedule for today’s practice and qualifying sessions, as well as tomorrow’s Race Day programme, for the latest round of the 2026 Championship is as follows.
The track will open at 10:00 for practice, with each class allocated a 20-minute session.
Practice begins with Bikes from 10:00–10:20, followed by GP4/GP3 from 10:20–10:40 and GP2 from 10:40–11:00.
Rookie/Female will run from 11:00–11:20, followed by 1500/1600 from 11:20–11:40, Starlet from 11:40–12:00 and Vitz from 12:00–12:20.
The track closes at 12:20 ahead of qualifying.
Qualifying starts at 13:00, with Bikes from 13:00–13:20, GP3 from 13:20–13:40, GP4 from 13:40–14:00 and GP2 from 14:00–14:20.
Rookie qualifies from 14:20–14:40, followed by Female from 14:40–15:00.
The 1500 class runs from 15:00–15:20, followed by 1600 from 15:20–15:40 and Starlet from 15:40–16:00. Vitz Cup closes qualifying from 16:00–16:20.
The GMR&SC is urging all competitors to be on time and prepared for their respective sessions as the 2026 Championship moves into another round of competition.
Sunday’s Race Day will be done in three blocks.
The first block of racing will run from 10:00 to 12:00, starting with Bikes, followed by 1500/1600, Rookie/Female, GP2/Starlet, Vitz and GP3/GP4.
The second block runs from 12:00 to 14:00, following the same order.
The third block is scheduled for 14:00 to 16:00, again featuring Bikes, 1500/1600, Rookie/Female, GP2/Starlet, Vitz and GP3/GP4.
The final session will be the Handicap, scheduled for 16:00–16:20.
The 2026 championship is supported by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, One Guyana, GuyOil, ENet, KFC, Tropical Shipping and Castrol.
