…Commander-in-Chief T20 Cup underway

THE Guyana Police Force (GPF) Officers began their defence of the Commander-in-Chief T20 Cup 2026 campaign on a winning note on Tuesday, whipping the Guyana Prison Service (GPS) in their opening fixture by 35 runs at the Police Sports Club Ground, Eve Leary.
Winning the toss and electing to take first strike, GPF Officers reached a competitive 182 for five from their allotted 20 overs.
Trevor Benn led the charge with an impressive 61 from just 30 deliveries, spanking two fours and four sixes. He received solid support from Michael Newland who provided a late boost with a quick-fire 21 from eight balls, including a four and a six, while Troy Benn contributed 20 from 14 deliveries, with two fours and a six.
David Wilson was the pick of the GPS bowlers, claiming three for 23 from his four overs, while Dorian Grenion took one for 24, also from four overs.
In reply, GPS reached 147 for nine when their 20 overs expired.
Grenion led their resistance with 67 from 40 deliveries, striking nine fours and a six, while Martin Rajmangal contributed 30 from 30 balls, including three fours and two sixes.
Trevor Benn completed an outstanding all-round performance by returning figures of 3 for 15 from four overs. Captain Budhram was equally effective, claiming 3 for 22 from his four overs, while Troy Benn picked up 2 for 36.
The GPF Officers were scheduled to be in action again on Wednesday’s second game of the day, taking on the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) following the morning clash between the Guyana Defence Force and the Guyana Prison Service.
