GUYANA and Brazil are looking to deepen bilateral relations, with Foreign Affairs Ministers Hugh Hilton Todd and Mauro Luiz Iecker Vieira discussing areas of mutual interest during a meeting on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly on September 22.
Todd, Guyana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, held bilateral talks with Vieira, Brazil’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, as the two sides reviewed areas of co-operation between the neighbouring countries.
The discussions focused on strengthening existing relations and exploring opportunities for further co-operation in areas of mutual interest.
Guyana and Brazil established formal diplomatic relations on August 26, 1968, and have since maintained broad-based co-operation spanning trade, health, military and police matters, and border demarcation.
The two countries share a longstanding relationship, reinforced by their geographic proximity and co-operation on issues affecting their common border and wider regional interests.
The latest ministerial engagement forms part of Guyana’s ongoing diplomatic engagements during the 81st Session of the General Assembly, where countries are holding bilateral discussions on strengthening international and regional partnerships.
