RESIDENTS of Capoey, Region Two, are now benefitting from improved lighting in their community following the completion of a street lighting project aimed at enhancing safety and visibility during the nighttime hours.
The project comes after residents raised concerns about inadequate lighting during Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo’s outreach to the region. Their concerns were subsequently addressed with a commitment to install additional street lights in the community.
With installation of the lights now complete, residents say the improved lighting is already making a difference, particularly for persons travelling through the community after dark.
The new lights are expected to provide greater visibility along roadways and public spaces, while giving residents an added sense of security and comfort during the night.
Regional Chairman Devin Mohan has expressed pride in the completion of the project, noting that it represents the importance of listening to residents and responding to the needs they identify within their communities.
Mohan said he is pleased to see the commitment made to Capoey residents translated into a tangible project that directly benefits the community.
For residents, the project is a boost for the community. One resident, Mayrie Federicks, said it is a visible improvement to their surroundings and an example of how concerns raised at the community level can result in practical development.
The Capoey project also forms part of ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and living conditions across Region Two, including its Amerindian communities.
Meanwhile, residents of Mashabo are expected to benefit from similar improvements, with the installation of street lights set to commence shortly.
