​A MAJESTIC all-round performance from the talented 11-year-old Eon Dhaupat spearheaded the Rose Hall Town Poonai’s Pharmacy Under- 12 team to a commanding nine-wicket victory over Black Bush Polder in a quarter-finals match of the Berbice Cricket Board/Faizal Jafferally Under-12 tournament.

The easy victory enabled Poonai’s Pharmacy team to book a place in the tournament semifinals, where they will play the winner of the Cothon Tree vs No 73 Young Warriors quarter-finals.

​Playing at the Area ‘H’ Ground in front of a sizable crowd in blazing sunshine, the visiting Black Bush Polder team won the toss and elected to take first strike.

They suffered an early setback when opener K. Agana was caught by Michel Alexander off medium pacer Eon Dhaupat off the third ball of the innings for nought.

Dhaupat struck again in his second over when he also had A. Robin caught by Navo Raghoo for 01. Joshua Mangru 15, Omar Ragubeer 22, L. Singh 10 and Ayan Belderam 11 not out all batted well to enable Black Bush Polder to reach 130 all out off their allotted 20 overs.

Extras contributed a healthy 53 runs to the overall total. Medium pacer Eon Dhaupat 3 for 15, Jarrel Grant 3 for 18 and off spinner Daniel La Cruz 3 for 19 were the successful bowlers for the home team.

​Needing to score 131 runs from a maximum of 20 overs, the home team was given a solid opening partnership of 110 runs by exciting Eon Dhaupat and the talented Daniel La Cruz. The 100-run opening stand came up in the 13th over before La Cruz departed for a well-crafted 41.

La Cruz struck three boundaries in his mature knock, while Dhaupat, the team’s vice-captain, hit six boundaries in his unbeaten knock of 50. The elegant Dheiroj Dhaupat drove and pulled well during his match-winning innings.

Inter-county player Japhet Khan was at the crease with Dhaupat when victory was achieved in the 16th over. Khan scored 10 runs with two boundaries. Joshua Mangru was the only successful bowler for the visitors with one wicket for 47 runs from three overs.
