GUYANA left an indelible mark on the international glass court this week as Richard Chin and Daniel Ince delivered a powerhouse double-medal performance at the World Squash Masters Championships.
In the Men’s +55 final, Richard Chin put on a masterclass of precision, length, and tactical discipline.
Squaring off against Germany’s Thomas Grubel in the golden decider, Chin dictated the pace of play from the opening serve, dominating key rallies to wrap up a clean sweep in straight games: 11-9, 11-7, 11-5.
“Guyana rejoices in Richard Chin’s magnificent achievement in capturing gold,” the President said in a statement honouring the new world champion.
“His triumph is a special honour for our nation, placing his name alongside that of Nicolette Fernandes, who brought home gold from the World Squash Masters in 2024.”
The dramatic flair continued in the Men’s +35 bracket, where Daniel Ince showed elite grit to capture a hard-earned bronze.
Bouncing back from a tough semi-final defeat against Singapore’s second seed Samuel Kang (8-11, 3-11, 3-11), Ince found himself locked in a five-game war of attrition against England’s David Allman.
Ince fired the opening salvo with an 11-8 win in game one before Allman stormed back to level the match.
Trading blows across four high-tempo sets, the pair pushed the battle into a high-stakes fifth game.
With everything on the line, Ince kept his cool under relentless pressure, finding his marks in the late stages to clinch the decider 11-9 and complete an epic 11-8, 3-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-9 victory.
“We are equally proud of the performance of Daniel Ince, who secured bronze in the Men’s +35 division, displaying remarkable tenacity,” the President noted. “Once again, our national colours have shone brightly on the world stage.”
The eight-day showcase in Mirrabooka brought together top veteran talent from every corner of the globe, but Guyana’s duo proved once again that world-class squash has a home in the Caribbean.
“These sterling performances remind us that Guyana, though small in size, continues to punch well above its weight in squash,” the President said. “Our players continue to take on the world’s best and to hold their own in regional and international tournaments.
